i'm still confused by the rolling + char stats thing so lets say she uh... overreaches a lot?

[Watching the flame curl across the edges of the page and devour the ink makes something in her chest tighten. The rhyme that Faye used to incite fire sounds familiar; her mind tries to conjure one in response, but the words seem too far away to reach.] Stop it.

[She remembers water, saltwater crashing against the rocks along the shore in New Salem in January. The Atlantic was particularly frigid in winter -- even most of the driftwood for bonfires had been soaked through. The more she thinks about the beach in Massachusetts, the more real it seems. Soon she can almost feel the icy chill of the waves against her arms and along her back.] Faye, stop.

[Water drips from the edge of her nose and she realizes, with surprise, that she wasn't imagining any of it. She shivers with real cold, and the ink in the book she holds is beginning to smear and fade across the pages.

And Diana and her book aren't the only things covered in freezing seawater.]
